I always love this scene because of the truth of the reality of the situation. The one thing you could say for the Founding Fathers is that they had guts. They were definitely in a ‘all in’ situation where they would either win the day or be killed for High Treason to the Crown of England. So this Fourth of July is the day we celebrate the signing of a document that would be a charter document for a new nation that was at the time still being birthed in blood. 239 years old today, Happy Birthday.
To my British friends across the pond I would ask you to hold your feelings and allow us one more celebration of you not being a part of our lives. It is really not personal much anymore as we have at time been allies and saved each others biscuits more than once. It is however our tradition to celebrate our Declaration of Independence one more time and will be so every July 4th.
There was of course many years of battle to come and many deaths. We needed help from a few friends and we also needed a little luck but in the end this country was its own for good or ill by the end. After some initial naming issues I the early years, we finally set ourselves up and went forward best we could. We have not always agreed and even have come to blows about our disagreements but the citizens of this country have always come together in time of crisis for the most part.
Perhaps this attitude of rebellion is what has kept us who we are. There is a natural skepticism to Americans and a disdain for authority that is common in most of us. It actually more like the fact that having seized authority for ourselves, we dislike giving it up. Treason might be in our blood. So here is to Treason, after all if you are going to sin, sin bravely.
Happy Birthday USA!
Blessings and Cheers!!!
