Oh, how true this is. I have lost track of he people who were naturally talented in something but because they didn’t work hard someone who did took the lead and left them in the dust. Talent will only take you so far because it is static. It does not do anything more than it does. Hard work is relative which means you can always work harder that the competition to overcome their lead. In the case of my discipline life I is the measure of how I get anything done at all.
I have talent to be sure. I am pretty sure hover that it is not super star quality in any area. My preaching is part talent but it is also part long practice. Writing for me was more of a work thing. I supposes some who read me would say there is some talent and imagination there that is mine but to be fair I have gotten much better at writing the more I write. This is true with most things I do and probably it true with most other people. Very few people are superstars based on raw talent alone. I keep learning this lesson every time something requires effort crosses my path.
To report of Operation Sledgehammer my nickname for my plan to win the weight loss contest with my family. I have done pretty well on the work side of things this week, I hit the treadmill each day for 20 minutes increasing the intensity every single day. I am hoping to hit the weights this week. nutrition is better but not perfect. The results were 329.4 lbs. which after three weeks is up a little (1 pound) but not too much considering one of those weeks had more social functions than I care to think about. I am interested to see what this week brings.
On the writing and reading side, things have improved immensely. I am reading more and making some progress with all these books I am trying to read. I ma blogging on schedule and my two non-fiction books both have something on paper and I am beginning to see the outline for both more clearly in my head. My hope is to make good progress on both through the next two months. I then already have November set aside for NaNoWriMo. Then my hope is to finish the other two sometime in January of 2015.
I am on the ballot for school board but discovered that for the three positions that are open there are four people running so one of us will lose. It is one of those elections where it is not so important to get the most votes but is about not getting the least amount of votes. So there will actually be a choice this November for Reed City Area Public Schools. The church is wrestling with some possible changes and thankfully I ma only wrestling with personal finance issues and not much else. The second job thing is problematic as I have received some good options except they none of them mesh well with my work as a pastor and others I would be so busy I am not sure when I would write. I keep looking and waiting for the right thing but jobs are still scarce in rural Michigan so I am now debating about some other options.
All in all this last three weeks have seen some progress. I only am concerned with some areas where I need some more work and effort.
Blessings and Cheers!!!
