I always love it when liberals fight. It is always great theatre. I however have to almost say I love Bill Maher in this debate. Ben Affleck is clearly trying to stay blinded to how big the problem is with the radical Islam. He makes that statement that ISIS couldn’t fill a double AA ballpark and if that is so how do they have an Islamic nation in Northern Iraq and parts of Syria. I don’t think you could hold such territory without a lot of support that equals more than the content of a AA ballpark. The problem is that even if the problem of radical Islam was only 10% that means there are 160,000,000 of them. Sorry that a lot. Take it down to one percent and you are at 16 million, still a lot. This idea that this is a small problem as Ben Affleck wants to think is not only unreasonable, it is not taking not account actual poll numbers inside of Muslim countries. Sorry Ben, stick to acting you clearly have a problem with the facts of the real world.
Probably more disturbing is the hypocrisy that liberals have to put themselves through to stand with Islam but still maintain their dislike of Christianity. I normally wouldn’t use Zonation because the man is very opinionated but in this case he hits the nail on the head and mentions Bill Maher probably referring to the above debate. I couldn’t say this better myself.
The fact is the Political Correct crowd is in a bind when it comes to Islam. They want to stand and call people homophobic and sexist but when they run into a religion that is clearly against homosexuality and against equal rights for women, they choke. They have stood with Islam because of the politics of getting back at Bush and to criticize him for being engaged in some form of religious crusade against a faith back in the day when Bush was in office. Now the rooster is coming home to roost for them for using this criticism in that the religion that they backed to do this is proving to have some of the most sexist and anti-homosexual people on the planet. Sorry when your hanging homosexuals and having women wear full length outfits and walking behind you as symbolic of their inferior status, that is pretty much anti-homosexual and sexist no matter how much you want to spin it.
The real issue for me is how suddenly the political correct crowd has completely flipped on religion. If Christians were doing this you can bet they would be all over it in the name of fighting homophobia and sexism. But it is the religion you backed for political reasons during the Bush administration, so now you’re stuck with them. Yeah, that situational morality is starting to bite you in the backside isn’t it? No matter what you do at this point you are going to be seen as a) not addressing the problem of Islamic fundamentalists and b) hypocrites.
All I ask is for some consistency. If you going to say religious beliefs cause problems then hit us all. Don’t play favorites and give one religion a pass because you needed them to win a political point. Either that or have a consistent message that says that fundamentalism in all religions is a problem and address that. I would join you on that one. But don’t give a certain group of fundamentalists a free past because you used them to make a political point in the past. I hate to say it though this may be a good day for those of us who see political correctness for what it is – anti-free speech. Because the one thing they are not getting away with is just calling people questioning Islam as Islam-phobic because even their own like Bill Maher are calling them on it. This is going to get good as liberals have to squirm into all kinds of interesting positions to keep doing what they do. I am going to make some popcorn.
