Disclaimer: The subject of this post is human sexuality in the context of Christian belief. It is intended for mature audiences. If you are under the age of 18 you should have your parents read it and judge if it is appropriate for you to read. Parents, lighten up about this with your teens because quite frankly I am trying to undo a lot of Christian mistakes in informing and educating people about sex. You have been warned and encouraged, enter at your own risk. Also, I am by no means a sexual expert, just a guy who has been married to the same woman for 25 plus years and a pastor who has for what ever reason been exposed to a lot of sexual issues during his ministry. If you don’t find your answer here, keep searching there is probably someone out there that has it.
This is a little different from doing it outside although some public places are outdoors. The fact is one could find a very private outdoor place. No this is for the thrill seeker married couple who enjoys the thrill of having sexual encounters in places where other people could be or show up. The couple that sneaks into a public restroom, or uses the hotel pool late at night, or tries to find some way to have sex while on the public beach or the classic backseat of the car parked somewhere public. If there are other people who could possibly see them or catch them in the act that is the thrill of what they are doing.
Most couples who have done this will tell you the sex is thrilling if not fully satisfying. Arousal comes faster when the public act is contemplated and acted on. It is the thrill of the public sex that is the draw not necessarily the quality of the sex itself. The draw is not necessarily exhibitionism as most couples truly do to want to get caught, it is the thought that they might get caught super-charges the thrill of things. There is also the thrill of being able to say to yourselves that your probably one of the few people who have had sex at or possible on a local landmark.
What is difficult Biblically is that the Bible never really prohibits sex in certain places other than the tabernacle and temple. This is simply way of distinction of the worship of Yahweh from the deities who surrounded them and not necessarily a statement that public sex is bad. If there is anything Biblically that stands against a Christian couple trying to engage in public sex it is the simple admonition of the Bible to be obedient to the law of the land and there are definitely a ton of laws against having sex in public.
In general, sex where everyone can see it is frowned on in most societies. There are exceptions to this in some societies but for the most part people have their own version of ‘get a room’ to the more than amorous couple. The fact is parents do not want to have to explain certain things to their children in general and if they and their child sees a public act of sex, then they are put on the spot and that never goes well. There may be nothing sinful about a married couple having sex in public but it sure is not culturally, legally or socially accepted by most people.
If are a couple that insists on having sex in public places, then be extra careful as a Christian. We live in a world of portable recording devices and where the reputation of Christians can be ruined. I wouldn’t want to be the couple that get caught having sex in public who then has to go to their church on Sunday or explain to their kids why the kids at school are suddenly making fun of them and their mom and dad. The risks of this are very great but if you insist as Christian you better take ten times the precautions as other people would and bring some sterilizing wipes with you. Other people have to sit there or use those facilities.
To be honest though this is not practice I can recommend because there is more than not getting a thrill at stake. The reputation of you, your family and the church can be damaged by the risks of this activity.
