This week saw the passing of another great Jazz great Clark Terry. Most people might guess that jazz I part of the music I like what they probably don’t know this is also the only music form I tried to pursue actually playing. It is the only music form that actually caused me to try to learn a musical instrument – the saxophone. I failed miserably but I never forgotten my love for shiny brass instruments played very well.
In my humble opinion, there has been no great jazz performer hit the scene for a long time. The problem is finding someone who is truly respectful of the past of jazz and also trying to do something that is truly from the heart. It is very hard these days to find any pop love for anything that does not involve a lot of electronic manipulation. This makes it hard to find anyone who just can make good raw unedited music. Jazz never had that problem and given as the great performers are dying and not replaced it probably never will.
Rest in Peace Clark Terry.
