Rabyd 1:2 – You are NOT God
It should be noted that the first two verses of the Book of Rabyd are not unique. The other thing that could be said is that you do not have to be a believer in the first verse to accept the second. Understanding that you are not God is probably one of the things that people can learn that provides stability in their life.
Firstly this understanding helps us to understand we are not the center of the universe. The world does not revolve around us. There are other people out there who stand as equals far as rights and we have to respect that. I cannot act in a way that sets me up as superior to others as far as what my rights verses theirs are. I am neither the supreme authority nor am I special in the world where I can claim some right to rule based on my achievements.
Secondly this rule allows me to accept limitations. I am not all-powerful, all-knowing and everywhere present. Fact is my power is pretty much limited to changing myself and maybe a few others, I am ignorant of a great many things and I can only be in one place at one time. This should develop a humility in us when dealing with others. Only collectively as a race can human beings amount to greatness as long as we understand we all are equal in rights and responsibilities.
Finally, this should set us to great activity out of this humility to make the world a better place for ourselves and others. There is work to do to overcome our limitations and move forward but this is best accomplished when we let people have their rights and respect them.
