What know one tells you about getting older is the growing temptation to take it easy. As you get older things get harder and so the temptation that grows as things get harder is to back off. This gets especially true if you are a person that has achieved some measure of success. The more you make yourself comfortable and the older your get where you try to avoid struggle, the more problematic it becomes to stay motivated. This is particularly true for me in the area of fitness.
This was not the greatest of weeks. I found myself not concentrating on what I was supposed to be doing and instead found myself looking forward to the next week. Part of this though was things were going so well. I have found a few ceilings as far as resistance but every week I was passing the previous week with relative ease. So this week was not the fault of my body so much as my mind and that part of me where motivation comes from. Success and getting older I think caused me to look for something else besides the basic struggle. Nothing to do for it other than pick up the pieces, re-evaluate and move forward.
Nutrition – I have ben somewhat piggish about what I have been eating this week. I know that from Monday on to the end of May I will be restricting my diet more and more each week. Trying to get in my favorite ‘junk’ in this week before I head off to the more restrictive world of the rest of Spring and all of Summer.
Flexibility – Focusing more on my own stretching routine than Yoga. Trying to hit the joints a little more than the muscles.
Cardio – Still saving. I really need a good treadmill with some heavy-duty quality particularly in light of the fact that Winter will be back. In the meantime I have made my stopwatch my friend while lifting and reducing the rest periods between everything to make things go faster and be a little more cardio oriented.
Strength – Moving from 4×10 to 4×12. With the rest periods getting much shorter, the resistance level will drop for the final set at lest for the first week. I am changing my split back to five days a week to allow for a day off in the midst of all that if I find a day that is too busy. This month’s actually goes for five weeks ending May 30th.
Blessings and Cheers!!!
