Rest. I have long learned that as important as training is there are two things that are more important. 1) Nutrition and 2) Rest. Both of these things become even more important the older you get but rest is one that is needed for recovery more than ever. No matter how good your nutrition and training might be if you don’t rest enough you will never recover from training and see the changes you want unless you get some rest and recovery takes longer the older you get.
This is he losing game we are all ultimately playing and the those of us that train and eat are basically saying that we want to live better so we are going to train, eat right and rest so the journey is a more pleasant one as we walk that road. It is not about finding immortality but rather finding a better mortality. But part of the lessons that weight training has taught me is the importance not of just training hard but training hard to ear n the rest we need to be better. No one got a better life by just sitting on their butt.
This week has been a switch to a lot more reps being 4×12. The resistance dropped a little and the split changed to four days per week with rest days on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. The goal being that the four days I do lift should be intense enough to feel I have earned my rest days. I want to need those rest days to recover. It has been a good week of earning rest.
Nutrition – Like I have said for weeks I am not really on a strict diet yet. But I am slowly trying to cut back on other things until we get to summer where the true dieting will begin.
Flexibility – Going to definitely have to reorder my yoga videos. The full body stretch I am doing is good but I don’t feel I am pushing myself with flexibility.
Cardio – I am thinking of walking now that the weather is nice. I however need to keep my eye out for a good used treadmill once all the nice weather is over.
Weight Training – This was great this week. Still very much sore from most of the training. Leg Day took about four days to completely recover from so that is where I want to be.
Blessings and Cheers!!!
