Last weeks sermon got me thinking about my lack of motivation that seems to be much higher than normal. I am motivated but not excited motivated. I have been thinking about how I ‘glorify God with my body’ and I have had a lot of time to think about it. This last week I did no workouts, I didn’t need them as I was involved in clean up project that was a more than able substitute between moving loads in a heavy wheelbarrow and bending over to pick up four layers of shingles from my house being roofed, I got quite the workout. It was loaded with all the elements and I certainly genuinely did not have the time this week to do a regular workout. On top of everything, I got sunburned in places, heat rash in places and numerous abrasions and cuts from all the nails and stuff that goes with such a project. My body is probably feeling it more because I am slightly out of shape yet and this really emphasized that fact.
I was able to think about 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 in terms of personal application at this time. I really now am asking myself what motivates me. Is this about me or Jesus. I know it sounds like a weird question to ask but people ask me about this all the time – did Jesus work out and eat right? The point is Jesus lived in a world where you walked or rode and animal and Jesus walked most of the time. As for eating right, I ma pretty sure his diet was very much meat and fish with a very Jewish dietary mode. That said he probably was in good shape and ate well. But going beyond that there is the issue of stewardship – you only get one body from God and you should take care of it. It really is that simple.
Next week, I head back to the weights, yoga ( got my beginner video again), and perhaps a sledgehammer because indefinitely after this week can see how real work constitutes a workout. Although I must say when you schedule workouts you probably hit your body parts more evenly in a week than with just a job.
Blessings and Cheers!!!
