The core of my workout is always the iron. I have little or no love for most other forms of fitness training. It does not mean I don’t do other things to do what is necessary for full body fitness but I must admit that cardio and yoga are necessary evils not the thing I enjoy. At the end of the day the thing that always tells me the truth is how much can I lift at X. The iron never lies it always gives me the iron clad truth. I have never had a weight lifting session where reality wasn’t revealed to me in all its glory. It is what it is.
This week was a challenge. I split off my leg day because there was so much going on in it from a personal record point of view. Namely I was challenging myself with the sled for leg presses to earn the right to lift 500lbs. next week. It is an interesting feeling having 490lbs. sliding down at you with only your two leg to stop it and only your two legs to lift it back up again. the way my system works is that if I hit minimum reps of the last set I can advance the weight on the last set for next time. Right now I am doing 8-10 reps so eight reps equals an increase of ten pounds/ ten reps twenty on leg stuff. My upper body goes 5lbs. /10lbs. The point is to have an iron clad system of when to increase the weight and I always like my last set to be to failure. I pushed it and got the eight reps (nine actually) so next week there will be 500lbs. on that bad boy. If I hit it, that is my first major challenge with the sled completed way before I thought I could.
In celebration of this I have decided I am in good enough shape overall to change things up slightly. Going to add a fourth set to make it 4×8-10 probably until the end of December. My hope is the extra set will move thing a bit as far as weight and that will help shake things up. I never like to leave things the same because I plateau out easy.
The Body Rundown:
Weight Lifting – Long term I am looking at 4×8-10 till the end of December. My split is going to change from Push/Pull to Legs/Arms and Core (Chest/Back/Shoulders). January through February I will drop back down to three sets but it will be 3×10-12. March through May I will probably make things 3x-12-15. I am going to try to get my school schedule so that I can lift four-day a week if not five so things can be split up more but the two-day split if fine for now.
Cardio – I still feel fatigued after a long week of walking all over campus with a heavy backpack but it is getting easier. Honestly I might had some cardio after Christmas Break which is a way away but as I get closer to my son’s wedding I want to more and more directly challenge my fat cells. Probably this spring their will be a lot more cardio.
Flexibility – Going to add a full stretch before my workouts this week. I noticed a few more aching joints than usual and it is probably time.
Nutrition – Not going to sweat it until March other than to watch that I don’t have too much sugary crap.
Blessings and Cheers!!!
