I want to start the process of character development for Ayn Jones as she now enters the initial character generation process with her first career. Ayn is now officially in her first career and she can be subject to the whims of fate and the scout service. Using the advanced character generation system I began to work her through her first term.
She did not need to roll for enlistment as she was a college graduate. She was automatically assigned to the Field branch and a roll of seven on two dice put her in the Communications sub branch. Her first year (age 23) was her training year which requires no rolls for survival. skills or promotion. She was given her extra point of pilot expertise and her zero level in Vacc Suit. I already put this in the last notes and episode but I review it now to remind everyone a term of service in the MegaTraveller system is four years.
Her next year (age 24) I rolled a seven giving her a routine assignment, survival roll of 4 plus 1 for her high endurance-5. Close call but not hurt or dead. Skill roll of 8 which rolling a 1 on the Communications Branch skill list (one die) gave me Zero-G skill. The close call with survival and the Zero-G skill combined into a story about losing artificial gravity. She rolled a 7 on promotion and in the enlisted branch this is good and she can roll every year. She moves from RS-1 to RS-2 or Recruit to Apprentice.
The next year (age 25), the rolls were eight for assignment (Mission), 7 for survival, 8 for skills: Scout Life table: roll of 3 for Gun Combat (I chose Handgun) and a promotion roll of 9. Rank: Apprentice to Journeyman. Not a lot of story here but the Mission of transporting sensitive information without incident came to mind which explained the learning how to fire her gun better.
Final year of her first term (age 26), Assignment: 6 (Routine), Survival: 12 (not even close to danger), Skills: 9 (roll of 6 on Communications table – Space cascade – chooses Engineering), Promotion:4 – no promotion. Lots of down time but a desire to learn Engineering leads to the old salt story.
I rolled a 10 for re-enlistment which was only not possible on a roll of 2 on two dice. Whether or not she will be transferred to another sub-branch will start the next episode. She did not use her brownie point and so she generated another one for finishing her first term.

Character Note: Ayn Jones underwent a anagathics experiment from the time she was 18 to 19. The experiment was a success and in addition to retarding her aging process to 10% normal (1 year for every ten – she ages one year every time her chronological Age hits a year with a nine(9) on the end), it also added 2 points to her Strength, Dexterity and Endurance. Her original UPP was: 88AC8A. She has a degree in Stellar Navigation from Aurora University. Brownie points – 2
This next term coming up will be more interesting from a story point of view because of regular anagathics rules and the fact that it was previously mentioned that her father’s money would be available to her at age 28.
