Well the last two days I have now collected a syllabus from each and every class I am taking this semester. Six in total. There is always this feeling of overwhelming angst at this moment when I see how much work has to be done but then I sit down with my planner and work it out. I said six classes but in truth I only have five classes that actually gave out a syllabus. One of my history classes is going to be nontraditional to say the least but I think I am going to enjoy it. The other history class and the sociology class I am taking don’t have a set in stone schedule which makes planning problematic other than it makes my policy of getting a week ahead and staying there all the more important.
This semester there are definitely some differences from last semester. Most notably that two of my classes want journal entries about what I learned that week in that particular class. It is something I have done before but writing good journal entries is time consuming but i have gotten faster at it from doing this blog so perhaps it will not be as bad as I thought. The Math Class is almost entirely computer based including time in class which makes it interesting. The instructor seems like more of a facilitator but she knows her stuff. It is definitely an odd assortment of professors this semester.
They all seem to have the eccentricities but that is one of the basic perks of being a professor. I have the Dead Poet’s Society Robin Williams like professor, the female social psych professor that plays devil’s advocate a lot, the history professor that looks like he was alive for most of 1877 to the present, the math teacher that knows her stuff and seems to love students, the history professor that starts each class with a rendition of “Sympathy for the Devil” (which tells you quite a bit right there about how nontraditional this guy is) and the sociology professor who is blind but seems to be very fun. I hope I survive but even if I do not this is going to be a great ride. .
The Soul Rundown:
Reading: Yeah, there is always a lot of this at the start but i still am going to try to sneak some desired reading in as well.
Writing: This blog is therapy for me to get away at least once a day from the pressures of school and such so I will be doing school writing and this much like last semester.
Family: Love the all but don’t know always how to express it. Especially when I am busy like I am now.
Finances: This is in the end one of the chief motivators for going to school, but truth is I like college campuses and I like being in class again. Learning is beginning to excite me.
Blessings and Cheers!!!
