My day has been spent mostly with my wife who took me out for my Birthday. I involved two of my three favorite things – a book store, and a real restaurant with real food. This time it was baby back ribs and yes they were good. The double advantage is that I had a gift card for the book store so about half of what I bought was free. It was a good way to unwind from a week where the end of it involved allergy attacks and a light cold combined. I actually feel better and it was a good moral booster for me at least. it also got me thinking as I was browsing the book store about Summer reading lists. I want some fiction and non-fiction but mostly I want to just do some reading. I would also like to read something truly new for me at least. I have roughly 13 weeks once the semester ends until the fall term so I figures a list of twelve to fifteen books will do.
- Finish Atlas Shrugged
- The Harry Potter Series – followed up by the movies. (7 books there)
- John Locke – Two Treatises of Government
- The Hunger Games trilogy (three books) also followed by the movies.
- Good to Great (second reading)
- Robert Heinlein Stranger in a Strange Land (complete and unabridged edition)
It should be noted that when it comes to the Hunger Games and Harry Potter I have never touched the books before, nor have I watched more than a few minutes of the movies. Now that the fanfare and popularity has died down a little, I might be able to read them in peace without people going ape-crap crazy about it and telling me that I will love them. Sorry I prefer to exercise my own judgement. Then I can watch the movies and have my own praise or gripes about them as well.
One thing that should help this is my month off in June. I plan on finding a way to get away from the routine that month. If that involves hiking to a spot to read, finding and affordable getaway or whatever, I want to spend this summer elsewhere and reading and writing. Hopefully things will work out.
In the meantime, I have school to finish and there is not actually much time left. By April 29th it will be done time for classes with only final exams for the first week of May. I am very close to being done with intermediate algebra. Just a little more homework and the comprehensive final to go. After that I need to concentrate on my two harder classes and stay current with the other three.
Summer awaits and I can’t wait for it to get here.
Blessings and Cheers!!!
