I always have a hard time at Memorial Day. I know what the day is for to remember the fallen that died in wars to protect our freedom. Remembrance is important. However, it is the living who have lost someone in war that still suffer and I think they are, after the flag is passed to them, forgotten in large part. Death is the order of the day but we have somehow devolved this into a time of picnics and BBQ. I suppose it is a typical American contrast. Celebrating in the midst of death is a pretty typical thing for us.
The thing regardless is to honor men and women who died and that must be irrespective of politics. Looking back at many of the wars we have fought as a Libertarian who believes in Just War Theory, I find there are very few just wars since World War Two. However, this does not prevent me from honoring those who died in all of them becasue for good or ill they did their duty and gave all so we can live as we see is best. Freedom and Liberty are precious things and they must be periodically bathed in blood it seems.
For those out there who are still mourning over lost members that war has stolen from you – God bless and may you find comfort in the arms of God. I can never replace what you lost though I wish I could. Perhaps we will begin soon to see the folly or war.
Blessings and Cheers!!!
