Like it or not life has more in it than one thing. There is Family, friends, work, fitness, hobbies, interests, entertainment, etc. For a person to get the most out of life requires balance. For me the balancing act of fitness has always been a struggle and this week was no exception. I have decided that perhaps a more balanced approach to fitness means a balance approach to my life in general.
I have three main areas of my life that I focus my attention – Spirit, Soul and Body. The spiritual side has four areas: Leadership, Ministry, Celebration and Disciplines. Soul is about four areas as well: Writing, Reading, Family and Friends. Finally there is Body: Strength Training, Nutrition, Cardio and Flexibility. Seems like a lot but to be honest most of this stuff takes about a half hour to an hour a day. Some of it I don’t do everyday either by design. The trick is to maintain balance.
I have been doing well is some of these areas but poorly in others and in large part it is a lack of balance. I either get excited and spend too much time with something or lazy and not enough time. This is in part why I have become so imbalanced as far as fitness at this point in my life. I definitely short-changing this part of my life and it is starting to affect the others. Imbalance leads to further imbalance until you come crashing down. So right now I am fighting to regain balance and I think the best course of action is to start by coming to an understanding of the need for rebalancing and catching myself before I fall.
It also means taking one thing at a time and building on it. Like a person going into a balancing pose moving slowly adding one thing at a time moving one body part at a time till the pose is reached. This week I am going to start by simply coming up with a list of things that need to be done with balance in mind on all my areas and then add one thing a day till they are all being done. Then I need to keep it up. Fitness wise my hope is to restore balance to it and to the rest of my life. I need it. The challenge is crafting what I need to do with balance in mind.
Blessings and Cheers!
