I have wanted to start a couple new things for a while now and a new series seemed in order. In the past my thoughts have always turned to what the Bible REALLY says about a subject. I have done this with many subjects including hell, nakedness, marriage, etc. One subject I have gone over and it has probably been wrong to do so is the subject of heaven. It seems the Christians have a lot of ideas of what the Bible really says about heaven and eternal life but not many actually know so it may be that our concept of heaven in Christianity is just as screwy as our concept of other things. This series will hopefully clear away the veil and open the gates to see inside at least a little into the heavenly realm of God.
For those not familiar with my methods I follow a procedure that involves Observation, Interpretation, Application and Contextualization in that order. Observation and Interpretation are similar in how they look but the basic question is different. Observation asks what the Bible says but Interpretation asks what it means. A lot of people may be reading my series on Revelation and confused because I look like I am doing it twice but the first time I was just asking what the text was saying in Revelation and the second time now I am trying to interpret its meaning. Application is how those passages apply to modern life and contextualization is how those new understandings might change the way we look at other things.
I want to first know what the Bible says about heaven. Then I want to know what the Bible means when it speaks of heaven. I then want to know how the Bible’s message f heaven affects my life right now and then I want to know how this understanding affects my other understandings I have already discovered.
Step one begins with finding out what the Bible says about Heaven and Eternal Life.
