That part of my life that has been what I would consider “Soul” has been about Writing, Reading, Family and Finances. Moving from areas to identities is actually probably the most liberating in this part of my life as it really opens up options while at the same time cleaning up some messes (literally). The new identities I am trying to achieve – Writer, Scholar, and Steward. The explanations for each and their corresponding goal follows.
The Soul Rundown:
Writer – I am trying to get more writing done outside this blog so defining myself as a writer instead of a blogger here should help wit h that. As I mentioned before I am going to try to make my blogging more of a reflection of my being a theologian so writing has to be about something else. It means I need to work on writing projects outside blogging for about an hour a day. That’s the goal starting with my book project.
Scholar – The definition of scholar is one who is given to books. This identity encompasses my desires to learn, read and grow in wisdom. In this case the goal is a for me to always be engaging in reading and learning with the bigger goal for this year of having a very good fall semester at school as I work for the ultimate scholarly goal, one semester at a time, of having my Ph.D.
Steward – This is the biggest change in my mind as it encompasses even more things than people think. Family and Finances certainly but it is much more than that. It is coming to a better understanding of how all the things are under my stewardship that God has placed into my hands. There are a few guiding principles here – simplicity and minimalism. The main goal is to by the end of the year be able to honestly say that everything in my life from relationships to stuff to money both a) is necessary and b) gives me joy.
Blessings and Cheers!!!
